UCU (University and College Union) represents 110,000 people in further and higher education in the UK.
At the University of Essex, UCU members include teaching, research and professional services staff at grade 7 or above, including GTAs.
Other grades of academic-related and professional services staff are served by our sister unions Unite and Unison, see www.essex.ac.uk/unions.
Essex UCU is formally recognised by the University of Essex. We frequently consult and negotiate with management on new projects and policies. Essex UCU can provide members with Union representatives at disciplinary hearings and similar meetings. Our dedicated casework team helps members with problems at work.
Essex UCU is supported by the Eastern & Home Counties Regional UCU Office, as well as the national UCU office – see www.ucu.org.uk. UCU campaigns for the improvement of the pay and conditions of further and higher education staff throughout the UK, including equality and job security, and for the provision of high quality education opportunities.
UCU was formed in 2006 by the merger of the former AUT and NATFHE unions. Essex UCU is affiliated to the local Colchester Trades Union Council. UCU is not affiliated to any political party, locally or nationally.
